Sometimes I imagine what my life would be like in different worlds, or even different time periods (I definitely would have been prosecuted as a witch). I rarely take the time to consider what my life would look like in an alternate universe. I think in another life I would have completed school to become an architect, which was a passion for me for a long time. I loved the artistic skill that used to go into structures that last beyond the end of civilizations. If I had gotten my degree in architecture my life would look completely different than it does now.

I wonder if life would be happier than it is now? I know that I was born into the right time period, I definitely would not have survived long before being committed somewhere in the past, but to think about how different life would be after only one different decision is an overwhelming thought. Would I have the same people in my life? Would I have been given the chance to meet my fiancé?

I have met most, if not all, of my friends from the places I have worked so I am fairly confident that I would not have met most of them if I had staid true to the path.

Maybe I would have dedicated more time to becoming an author instead. I used to post stories on Wattpad in an attempt to find my voice, but I never finished a story. I was so focused on putting out the perfect first draft that I forgot to have fun with it. How exciting would it have been to be able to say I wrote a book.

When it comes to alternate realities I also wonder how similar to my current reality they would need to stay. How different could life really look? What are the choices that have curated life as I know it?

The concept of discovering the foundation of your reality would be an interesting plot to a fantasy novel. I don’t think I have ever read something like it, but I know I have seen a few movies/TV shows that focus on something similar. I might need to look into it a bit more to discover how others orient themselves around the idea.
